A few thoughts on…

School Starting… Back at Maryland now; the summer was fun, but over far too quickly. I spent June with Mary in Cape Cod, July and half of August at work back at my dad’s place, and the last two weeks of August touring Alaska with my folks. So far this has been a good start, both for Mary and myself. She’s not worrying too much about the people at her school and I’m not worrying too much about classes. We’re both getting out more, too, on our own, which is quite enjoyable.

The movie The Hero… Not quite the action movie I was expecting, but I only heard of it today so I don’t mind. Nick, the Mikes and I went as sort of an action-movie-porterhouse night out to a new theater in Silver Springs, and I found it quite enjoyable. Mike G was unable to suspend his disbelief at all the flying and stuff, so he didn’t get into it quite as much as I did… I loved the colors, not because of their theme so much as because they were just fun to watch. I liked how each time Snow said she didn’t mean to inflict the wound so deeply, and then finally inflicts it very deeply in the end; maybe she gets it finally?

Anything air-drying… Nothing does. My towel has been wet for three days because of the humidity.

Franz Ferdinand… I heard this band on NPR four or five months ago, and I guess a lot of other people did too because they’re on the charts, and even Q101 are playing them. I bought the album on vacation, and really love the sound of it, with the poppy hooks and fast beats. It’s a good latenight driving album… I just wish the songs weren’t all about girls and flirting. I hope it’s kinda like the Beatles, that their first albums were all about hooking up, ‘cause that’s what they knew, and then moved on to more universal topics. Mixing good lyrics with that music would rock well.
