Letter to a Biologist:

I was thinking about what you said the other day about knowing too many people. Forgive me for this slippery slope to dorkdome, but... It seems that we're like lost radicals, who are propagating, propagating, propagating, without termination steps. This has been a problem of mine for half a decade; I am always running around [social] circles with half a subconscious eye to find new, interesting people, but I rarely get to really know anyone. Things have gotten much better, but I can still remember first semester freshman year here, where I went out every weekend, but almost never with the same group of people. My friends back home laughed at me for it, because they knew I was just doing the same thing I did with them.

The trick is, and I think you appreciate this, just knowing some people well. And finding good people to get to know. It's either that, or getting to know your lab well. Neither of which is a bad alternative. ;)
