Friday, October 21, 2005 - Weird Madison Honky Show
We went to see the Decemberists (see the wikipedia entry if that link leaves you completely confused) last night playing at the Orpheum. They really are as weird live as you think they would be after hearing the albums. It's funny, because almost every song they play could be a top-40 hit, if it weren't played just different enough, with just that touch of acordian, and included lyrics so, so strange. I actually wanted more acordian and less rock... There was too much sound on a live stage, and a lot of the songs lost their complexity because you just couldn't here it. Plus, the orpheum is a nice venue, but it's [relatively] big, and the hordes of white people were actually disconcerting. I've never been at a whiter show in my life. I'm sad I missed Sage Francis come by last week, but I'm afraid about how white that show would have been in this town. They played a good show, indeed. The band was reserved, in that playing-it-cool kinda way, and the violinist was very, very awkward, but the lead singer Colin was crazy. Rockin' Thursday...

You guys had better fucking participate in Zombie Lurch 2005. I would totally do it if I could.
Damn me and my being out of town when all the COOL zombies come to town... I hope your Lurch in Savannah goes well!
