Tuesday, June 13, 2006 - JP - Cheer When the Lawyer Gets It
Movies on the terrace started tonight; the first offering was Jurassic Park. How great is that?! This is one of those movies-from-childhood, where you know all the words, all the jokes, even the soundtracks. Mary's is "Rock and Roll Highschool", mine is JP. I still remember the Sega Game, where you take the raft down the river past the dilophosaurs, shooting the red darts and only switching to the more powerful blue ones when you really needed them. (I think, I just remember there was something with the color, and that makes the most sense). It's like AJ says about teaching; you have to be careful not to be wrong. The best we can do as teachers sometimes is to key kids in on centers or energy and research; teach only what a panel of experts could agree upon (which is very little, in actuality). I went to visit my grandmother last week. We had Macaroni and Hot Dogs (my favorite! [still]). I figured that the trick is to use tomato juice instead of tomato sauce, and also all-beef franks (as opposed to the half pig / half mystery they normally sell). She was in an accident in january or february but has made an amazing recovery. She'll probably never drive again, but as long as she can walk I'm happy. Jerry is picking up the slack, and although he's still keeping up his pasttimes (we watched the original unaired pilot to "Lost in Space" with him) he's definitely picking up an attitude; which he needs. Still, Lost in Space was pretty frickn' sweet. Especially because they were launching the interplanetary spaceship in 1997. Honestly, I think they put the dates in for future people to chuckle. It really was the coolest thing I've done with my grandma in a while. Anyway, that's the summer as it stands: part fMRI lab, part teaching and part learning. As long as I keep the afternoons free for relaxation this will be a great summer. Huzzah.!
